The Forest | Steam Early Access
The Forest is a spooky survival/crafting game set on a remote island with beautiful looking and sounding ecosystem. You are the sole survivor of a crashed down plane and pretty soon after waking up, you realise the island is inhabited by savage tribes that don’t like visitors.
The island you’re on holds many secrets and dense forests/jungles. Luckily the survival guide in your pocket tells you how to build up everything from temporary shelters to bigger, more permanent shelters, various campfires, traps etc.
You can forage berries, catch fish with spear, hunt wildlife and try to keep yourself nourished.
The atmosphere in The Forest is great! I love the curious birds flying around, the ambient sounds of wilderness, day and night cycle, little rain and heavy thunderstorm, the morning sun and godrays through trees after a long, scary, dark and cold night. As an outdoors person myself this scale of realism feels very nice! I was almost paranoid while chopping down trees, carefully peeking over my shoulders, stopping every now and then just to listen the weird noises echoing from distance..
Of course, as with every Early Access games, The Forest has some bugs too: silly AI, some looping sounds, sometimes can’t use crafted items, weird pause system (game runs on the background, nothing moves though but your hunger still grows). There’s also lot of stuff still “missing” and still being developed but I’m sure everyone already knows that’s what Early Access is - show some love for a dev and his unfinished game that has potential to be a great one with little work a polish.
The Forest has earned my support! I can’t wait for it to grow and get most of the bugs squished out.
