Mafia II, 2010
I finally got to play Mafia II with a decent rig. I remember back in 2010 my computer was really struggling to run it and I never got very far in the game. Now with the (somewhat) new computer I bought couple years ago, it has been smooth sailing - even with maxed out graphics.
And playing the game has been a HUGE pleasure! I’m glad I decided to try it again! The world is so detailed, graphics are really nice and don’t feel dated at all. The soundtrack and the general vibe of 40s-50s New York & Chicago is there. Car handling is superb, you really feel like driving big, bulky, old american cars. Weapons, sounds, effects - all done very nicely.
Oh and yes… The story and missions. I’m really loving it all! There is a nice mixture of action, violence, drama, funny stuff & hilarious events and the game really sucks you in it.
If you compare it to the latest GTA V, the world map is of course a bit smaller and there isn’t that many extra activities to do - but if you are already bored with GTA V, don’t feel a huge need for minigames and still love open world games like it, I highly recommend you to try Mafia II if you missed it back when it realeased in 2010.
I could easily give it a generous 8.5 or 9 out of 10 if I’d do a proper review. But since I’m not going to, I’ll just say it’s a damn good game that deserves another sequel. Fast!
